Found another example of how creatively black tape was used by Acsinte. Here it helps photographer to print two different pictures using the same negative:

Clever! I thought that the black tape in this instance was used simply because the photographer didn’t like how the other subjects turned up. I thought that they spoiled the picture, but I was wrong
indeed, sometimes it was used just as you said, only to cover unwanted details
